OSDL(Open Source Development Labs)なる組織がある。
直訳すれば、オープンソース開発研究所。
調べてみると、『大企業がパトロンになって、Linuxをもっとエンタープライズ用途に使えるようにしましょう』みたいなノリのNPO団体らしい。
Linuxの開発者として有名な、リーナス・トールバスさんや、Sambaの開発者を特別研究員として抱えている。
こういうのって難しい問題も抱えてしまう気がする。
単純にオープンソースを開発するということは、ある意味社会奉仕に近い。
直接的な収入を求めず、ハッカー達が開発するオープンソース。
そこに目をつけた大企業が『お金を出すから好きに研究してくれや』と言っている。その一例がOSDLだろう。
創造的な仕事ができる人達に、パトロンがついたようなものか？
人間社会なんて所詮、中世から変わってないのか。
気になるのは、参加する企業としては、ビジネスチャンス(お金儲けのニオイ)につられて莫大なお金を出資しているのだろう。
人間、お金稼がないとご飯が食べられない。
作る方としても、自分の好きな研究をして給料もらえるならこんなに嬉しいことはない。
でも、なんか胡散臭い。
資金力にまかせて大企業の発言力が高まった行くと、その組織の意図によってオープンソースの大切なものを失ってしまうような気がして少し怖い。
もっと、市民的運営というか、そういった方法ってないものだろうか？
オープンソースを直接的にお金儲けに繋げようということにちょっとあさましさを感じてしまう。
直接的でもJBOSSみたいなアプローチならいい感じなんだけど・・・。

ちょと、タイトルにびっくり（笑）
いつも話題があっていいです。。羨ましいです。。

あー、これは、そうなる危険性もあるかなとわたしゃも思いました。
オープンソースというもの自体と、昨今の流行？であるLinuxを導入すること自体とを直接的に結びつけているような気がします。
一昔で言えば、オブジェクト指向！、UML！って急に上が騒ぎ出した時みたいな、感覚で大企業さんが協力してくれるような気がします。
言うだけなら簡単なのに…

結局、仕事と趣味は違うので、ビジネスに繋げるとオープンソースを振興すると言う意味でOSDLみたな組織が出てくるのは一つの回答だと思います。
個人的には、問題だと思うのは裏にある思惑で、これらがオープンソースというものを歪めてしまうのではないか？という危惧があります。
ただ、お金があるのは大企業であり、企業レベルが大きくなると社会的責任も大きくなってきますから１次回答としては正しいのかもしれませんね。
うーむ、、確かに難しいのかもしれませんし、大企業のケースと考えると…
ただ、わたしゃは以下のことを伝えたかったです。
